But a local couple - who have asked to remain anonymous - have taken on the lease and local villagers have helped out with cleaning, maintenance and decoration to enable it to reopen today (Tuesday, June 30). "Without it this village would be lost," he said of the pub. "The people I have met have made a huge difference to my life. "Without the pub I would never have met them. This village has the nicest people in it I have met for a long time." Lee - who manages Drive Vauxhall car dealership in Ipswich - helped out with cleaning, decorating and gardening to get the pub ready to reopen. Many others were also involved, he said. "I'm not alone," he said. "Genuinely it means the world to us this pub." The new landlords hope to have a new commercial kitchen installed over the summer and meantime food trucks are being brought in at weekends. After a settling in period, they aim to offer a scaled-down menu of pizza and barbecue on weekdays. The pub was in good hands, said Lee, who hopes to celebrate his 51st birthday at the pub tomorrow (Wednesday< July 1). "It will be better than it has always been," he said. "It's everything a pub should be which is very rare these days." The new landlady said they have temporarily closed the restaurant and kitchen and focused on the bar area. "Once it's open we are going to incrementally go around and do the bits up," she said. Around 18 people - many of them volunteers - helped out with preparation work on Monday. "I saw people I have never seen before - they were excited about a new place. We have changed the colour. We have refreshed the whole area," she said. They were also keeping prices down. "It's not about profit - it's trying to keep it as a community asset and that's why we are doing it because we love the pub." "We are getting new equipment - everything will be new and done well," said the landlady. Scaffolding at the front of the pub was taken down ready for this week's reopening. Staff members have been kept on following the pub's closure on June 21 - including assistant manager Alex Griffin, front-of-house manager Rochelle Arthur and head chef Charlotte Parnell.
